Race Report

Many thanks to the 84 competitors who joined us on the hottest day of the year (so far) at the beautiful Denham Waterski Club.  The water was indeed the 18C that was promised and everyone was in great spirits.

The evening started with registration in the club house and watching the final water-skiers doing their amazing stuff!  Once the skiing had finished for the evening, our 750m swimmers took positions for their start.  Dave Wardle (in a canoe) was the race starter and set 30 swimmers off at 7:30 (or thereabouts).  He allowed the race to complete half a lap before it was time for the 1,500m swimmers.

56 swimmers lined up for the 1500m race and were set off by Dave’s whistle.

First out of the water in the 750m was Hillingdon Triathletes own Lewis Hawkins (09:46) followed by Robert Jennings and Ben Scott.

First lady was Harriet Hollis (11:21) followed by Jo Lewis and Henrietta L Cooper.

In the 1500m men’s race as predicted, it was the amazing youth Jordan Sexton (20:01) who is getting better and better as the season progresses.  2nd was Jonathan Eames of Chiltern Tri and 5 seconds behind him was Kevin Walden of Tri-Force.

For the ladies it was another stunning time for Hannah Kitchen (20:40) who was also 2nd overall.  2nd lady was Amy Claridge and then Abbie Sellars in 3rd.

It is nice to note that all 84 swimmers completed the course successfully.

The evening concluded with a barbecue on the club deck while prize-giving took place. It was great to meet so many new people who had never been to Denham Waterski Club or indeed ever done an Open Water swim.

We get the feeling that Hillingdon Triathletes will pick up a few new members following such a great evening of sport.

Many thanks to all especially the race organisers and volunteers for keeping us all safe.

See you all next year for our next OW Swim race.
